The new earth, the eternal feast, and a final invitation
“Whatever you have done, wherever you have been, however long you have been away, your seat has not been given to someone else. The feast is prepared. The Father is still watching the road.”
The destination the whole series has been building toward is not abstract or spiritual. It is physical, tangible, and already being prepared.
This is the last lesson of Course 3, and it brings us to the destination the whole story has been building toward. Not a vague spiritual afterlife. Not clouds and harps. A renewed, physical, tangible world, the world as it was always meant to be, with a table set for everyone who said yes.
And your seat at that table has been prepared. The question is whether you will take it.
Revelation 21 describes something specific. John sees a new heaven and a new earth, and the Holy City coming down from God. Not people floating up to where God is. God coming down to where people are, as he always has. A city with foundations and gates. Trees with fruit for the healing of the nations. A river of life. The physical creation, healed and restored.
This matters because it means the things we love about being alive in this world, the taste of food shared with people you love, the particular quality of light on a clear morning, the experience of being fully known and belonging somewhere, are not things we leave behind. They are things being restored to what they were always meant to be. We are not escaping the physical world. We are inheriting it.
This is also where the way you were assembled comes back around. You are one piece, body and mind and spirit together. So the future is not you shedding a body you were never really part of. It is you, whole, in a world that is finally working the way it was designed to.
Revelation 19 describes the marriage supper of the Lamb, the great feast at the culmination of human history. A celebration of the completion of what God started in the garden and promised through every covenant and accomplished in Jesus.
Every meal we have shared in this community has been a preview of that. Every time we gathered around a table, welcomed someone new, passed the food and listened to each other’s stories, we were practicing something ancient and eternal. Isaiah 25:6–8 describes it: “On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare a feast of rich food for all peoples… he will swallow up death forever. The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears from all faces.”
The feast at the end of the story is the answer to everything that has broken our hearts in the middle of it.
We end where we began: with a father watching the road. His son is still a long way off. He sees him. He runs. He throws his arms around him and kisses him. He calls for the best robe, for a ring, for shoes, for the fatted calf. “Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.”
That is the last image this course wants to leave with you. Not a checklist of beliefs. Not a system to comply with. A Father who has been watching for you. Who sees you while you are still a long way off. Who does not wait for you to arrive and prove yourself. Who runs.

Here is something worth sitting with as this course wraps up. The new earth is not just a destination you wait for. It is something you begin stepping into now, in the choices you make about how you live in this body, in this community, in this week.
The feast Revelation describes is physical and tangible. Real food, a real city, real bodies fully restored. That matters for how we live right now. The way we care for our bodies, what we put into them, how we rest, how we structure our days, is not separate from the spiritual life. It is part of what it looks like to step toward the thriving, whole life God is already moving the whole story toward. We will spend a whole session on what that looks like in practice near the end of this series, and it is a better conversation than most people expect.
The final course of this series turns from what is coming to what happens now. Who these people are that you have been sitting with. What they actually do together and why. And what it would mean for you to stop attending and start belonging.
For now, the invitation is simply this: your seat is there. Step into it. Not perfectly. Just genuinely.

Take time with these questions on your own, or bring them into conversation with someone you trust.
Each of these is meant to be simple enough to actually do. Pick one, or try all three. The point is to take one step, not to be perfect.
Host a meal as a preview
Every shared meal is a preview of the eternal feast. This week, invite someone to your table who would not usually be there. Make it a deliberate act of welcoming them to a seat that belongs to them.
Take stock honestly
Find a quiet place this week and write an honest answer to question 4: where are you right now in your relationship with God? No performance. Just the real thing.
Say yes to the invitation
The Father is still watching the road. Whatever has kept you at a distance, bring it to him this week. You do not have to have it all sorted out before you start walking home.
