Your first Saturday

Questions people ask

I had a bad experience with church. How is this different?

You're not the only one here who has been there, and we're sorry it happened. There's no stage, no performance, and nobody keeping score. It's a meal in someone's living room and an honest conversation where questions and doubts are welcome. Come once and see.

I'm not sure I believe any of this. Can I still come?

Yes. House to House is for people at every point in their spiritual journey. Whether you're exploring faith for the first time, have been hurt by religion, or have been following Jesus for years, you're welcome here. We believe real community happens when people can be honest about where they are.

What should I bring?

Just yourself. A brunch dish to share is always appreciated, but it's optional. No Bible needed. We'll have copies, or you can read along on your phone.

Can I bring my kids?

Absolutely! Kids are an important part of our community. We have rotating kids leaders who create age-appropriate activities related to the same themes adults are discussing. We also incorporate outdoor time when possible and design everything to be family-friendly.

Is this a church?

Yes, a small one that meets in homes instead of a building, and part of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. In the Bible, church isn't a place but a group of people in relationship with one another and with God.

Why Saturday?

For us Saturday is the Sabbath, a weekly day to rest and slow down. Brunch with friends is a good way to start it.

Do I have to come every week?

No. We understand that life is busy and messy. Come when you can. What matters most is showing up as yourself when you're there, not perfect attendance. We want to meet you where you are, not add pressure to your life.

More about us

How it all works

What happens at a typical gathering?

Our weekly gatherings include a shared meal, interactive discussion around a topic or story, and genuine connection. Kids are welcome and have their own creative activities related to the same themes. Everything is designed to feel natural and conversational, not formal or performative.

How is this different from a traditional church?

Instead of asking people to come to a building for the service, we meet in homes and everyday spaces. In the Bible, church isn't a place, but a group of people in relationship with one another and with God. We're focused on these relationships and shared life rather than programs and performances.

Are you part of a denomination?

Yes, House to House Network is part of the Seventh-day Adventist Church Network. This gives us support and resources at regional, continental, and worldwide levels while allowing us to operate with flexibility and local focus. We teach our theology straight from the Bible, but welcome people from all backgrounds and beliefs.

Where do you meet?

In homes around Tacoma. The host changes from week to week, so we text the address to people who save a seat instead of posting it online.

How can I get involved or serve?

There are many ways to participate: hosting an event, coordinating meals, facilitating activities, connecting and greeting people, organizing service projects, or simply inviting new people. We believe everyone has something to contribute, and we'll help you discover where you fit. See Get Involved.
